Housewarming, The Residence, Victoria Park Road, 2005
-
The Residence Gallery is an independent contemporary art space in Hackney, London, where exhibitions, performance and participatory formats converge. We work with artists whose practice extends across visual art, movement, music and social space.
Founded in 2005, The Residence began as an artist-run project occupying provisional spaces in East London, including a disused Victorian hospital, a shopfront and the director's home. It established itself on Victoria Park Road in 2005, almost directly opposite the gallery's present location. Over two decades, The Residence has developed through exhibitions, performances, collaborations and artist-led experimentation.
Today, The Residence is entering a new phase, with an increasing emphasis on physicality, movement and participatory practice alongside its exhibition programme.
The gallery is directed by Ingrid Welsh, who works as an artist under the name Ingrid Z.
